The Chairman of Rutland Foodbank Ali Wainright has expressed concerns over growing food poverty in the county.
The issue was also highlighted by Dr Sarah Furness, who opened the foodbank's new premises at 36 Melton Road last week, more than a year later.
Plans for six homes in Barleythorpe are back before the planning committee of Rutland County Council next week.
The application for the houses on land adjacent to Barleythorpe Hall, Main Road, Barleythorpe, was adjourned from last month's meeting to allow members a site visit and to address developer contribution issues.

A number of new road safety campaigns and initiatives will be launched in Rutland this autumn to highlight the dangers of speeding and promote consideration for all road users.
The work is being led by Rutland County Council, Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, and the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership (LLRRSP). Local residents will also be directly involved.

Oakham's long-awaited Neighbourhood Plan is moving closer to being put to a public vote.
The plan, which aims to guide development in Oakham and Barleythorpe until 2036, went through a consultation phase earlier this year, before it was given to a planning inspector for inspection, as previously reported by Nub News.
