Discover Rutland has worked with other tourism bodies to create and promote a major national project known as The Explorer's Road.

Funded by the Discover England Fund, the initiative highlights quintessentially English cultural and historic attractions on a touring route, using the A1 as an artery to explore destinations between London and Berwick.

Network Rail has completed a major project to replace Manton railway bridge in Rutland, which was over 150 years old.

The bridge carries the line between Melton Mowbray and Stamford/Kettering and runs over the busy A6003. Fully replacing it means passenger and freight services can continue running safely and reliably and people in the community can connect to other towns and cities for generations to come.

Rutland couple Ali and Steve Gorman (58) will be cycling the 2034km National Cycle Route 1 from the Shetlands to Dover in order to raise money for local mental health organisation, Pepper's- A Safe Place.  

The pair from Whissendine, who both retired from teaching last year, hope to complete the ride over a 3-week period starting on 1st August.  The route follows the Eastern part of Scotland and England and is less well known than the Land's End to John O' Groats route which the pair have cycled previously.
