Rutland car crime spree

Rutland has been the target of a spate of vehicle crimes recently, with thefts in Oakham and Uppingham.

A house in Cornflower Crescent, Barleythorpe, was broken into overnight of October 26/27 and the keys for blue BMW parked outside were removed from a rack in the hallway. The vehicle was driven away and its number plates later found dumped.

Empty crisp packets can now be recycled at Rutland County Museum – and the tourist attraction will benefit.

As part of a new scheme being supported by Rutland County Council, anyone can now take their empty crisp packets to the special drop-off point at the museum, where the waste will be sent to TerraCycle for recycling.

An initiative which took place in Rutland to help identify the needs of the Armed Forces community has received high-profile backing from the Government's Veterans' Minister.

Johnny Mercer MP, the Minister for Military Personnel and Veterans in the Ministry of Defence and Minister for Veterans' Affairs in the Cabinet Office, has offered his support – via video – as part of a special event, held at The Symington Building in Market Harborough, on 25 October 2019, to officially launch the findings of an Armed Forces community survey.

Phone scammers are operating in Rutland

Police are warning the elderly to be at full alert after an 85-year-old Rutland man was conned out of £5,000 by callous conmen.

The Lyddington pensioner handed over the money after he was contacted on the phone by a bogus police officer. Now local police are urging the community to make sure their elderly relatives, friends and neighbours are aware of the perils of scamming.
