Dedicated champions of public safety are being honoured in a new awards contest marking the end of Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Lord Willy Bach's term in office.

Nominations are now being sought for the PCC's Safer Community Celebration 2020 awards which recognise the outstanding contribution of community heroes across Rutland and Leicestershire.

Artist's impression of Godwin Developments' proposal for the Ram Jam Inn site

Plans to demolish the Ram Jam Inn off the A1 at Stretton and build four commercial units on the site have been vetoed by a Government planning inspector.

Godwin Developments lodged an appeal after its application to develop the site - incorporating the inn, an area of overgrown open land and a large car park - was refused by the county council in October last year.

Business unit tenants in Ashwell are being supported by Rutland County Council after a small amount of overnight flooding affected their premises.

The localised flooding was caused when Langham Brook reached its peak at around 2am last night (Mon) and caused some drains in low-lying areas to overflow.

Greetham Valley Golf Club

John Sparks the retiring President at Greetham Valley Golf Club, hosted his final President's Invitation Day recently and although the event was reduced to a nine hole Texas Scramble some 100 players turned out for golf and lunch with guests.

The winners of the two scrambles were Iain and Luc Affleck with George Chubb and Izzy Haughton (on the front nine) with an amazing score of 7-under gross; whilst the back nine winners were James Ablett with Ian Cunningham and Kevin Burdall who were 4-under gross.
