The popular beach and Aqua Park at Rutland Water will remain closed until further notice, it has now been announced, following an outbreak of blue-green algae.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: "Unfortunately the levels of blue green algae are still too high at Rutland Water for us to be able to open the beach this weekend. The water at Rutland remains closed for all water sports, the Aqua Park and swimming.

Tim Nixon, Greetham Valley Golf Club

Last weekend a Mixed Stableford Qualifier was played on Greetham Valley Golf Club's Valley Course and, for the first time in more than a few years, Tim Nixon (hcp 15) found himself at the top of the leader-board with a great score of 24 points.

Tim sank two birdies (one in each half) and was delighted to have played so steadily with a total of six pars to augment his score.

Bin collections in Oakham will take place at a slightly earlier time tomorrow (Thurs), in response to weather forecasts predicting extremely high temperatures.

According to the MetOffice, daytime temperatures are expected to reach 34°C in Rutland, with health leaders issuing safety advice encouraging people to take care in the heat.
