'Kenny!' - The Kenneth Williams Centenary Musical
Uppingham Theatre

Saturday 16 May
A one-off. A comic genius. Jekyll and Hyde. These are some of the ways in which Kenneth Williams could be described. Now, in the year in which he would have turned 100, a new musical will open at Uppingham Theatre to celebrate the centenary of the iconic comedy actor, born on 22 February 1926. Wink Taylor stars as Kenneth.
'He captures every single vocal inflection and nuance seemingly with ease, to the point that you could easily forget at times this is not the genuine article, which is testament to Taylor's brilliance.' (SetTheTape on Screaming Queens)
Uppingham actor and writer Henry Dawe has written the book and lyrics to the show, with music by Tom Neill. Direction is by John Hewer and musical direction by Christopher Peters.
Henry says, 'It will be a great pleasure to be back in Uppingham Theatre where many people generously supported Cheer Upp! in 2024. The music video to promote Rutland as a tourist destination, for which those shows raised funds, is progressing well. This time, we are combining comedy with music. Kenneth Williams was one of the most extraordinary men Britain has ever produced. No other British comedy actor has ever held such a fascination for the public in his lifetime and so many years after his death. One hundred years on from Kenneth's birth, our mission is to pay tribute to Kenneth and to recognise the contribution he made whilst fighting his troubles.'
Will you laugh? Will you cry? Find out at Uppingham Theatre, 32 Stockerston Road, Uppingham LE15 9UD on Saturday 16 May at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
