Christmas comes to Welland Vale as Rutland garden centre stays open during lockdown

Christmas has come early at Welland Vale Inspirations Garden centre at Uppingham.

Customers are flocking to the premises on Glaston Road, which already is offering a fine range of festive fare.

Annie Burns, who runs the popular business with husband Charlie, confirmed: "Yes, we are remaining open throughout November."

This contrasts with the first lockdown when garden centres were ordered to close during its strictest phase.

Annie told Nub News: "With ample of seasonal plants to enjoy, autumn need not be dull. We have lots of home grown plants grown on our own nursery here in Uppingham, plus all the garden essentials to keep the garden neat.

"This season is perfect for planting hedging, fruit trees, shrubs and seasonal favourites hellebores, panolas, pansies and violas. Poinsettias will be arriving mid November too."

Annie continued: "We also have a fabulous Christmas display. With opulent luxurious items to everything you need for making your own work of art. We have a gorgeous selection of eco friendly decorations, as well as some seasonal classics.

"You'll also find artificial Christmas trees and wreaths as well as fresh from the last week of November. This year we have even more varieties of trees, displayed out in our orchard cafe courtyard, with a snow machine to make it even more magical."

As under government regulation, the Orchard Cafe will be closed throughout November, not re-opening until allowed, which at present will be December 2 at the earliest.

However, Annie said many deli items are still available from the main centre, including multi-buy hampers, wine, gin and festive treats.

As recently reported by Nub News, the garden centre has opened a deli, offering many of the finest locally-sourced items.

Annie added: "Business has still been good with people certainly shopping Christmas earlier and getting in the spirit, determined not to let the year dampen the season.

"COVID safety measures are in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable shopping experience. For those not wanting to venture out, our website has a large online shop to browse too.

"This only shows a very small selection of our offering so if you don't see what your after, give us a call. We will happily send you pictures to find your perfect product- we'll even deliver it!"

During November, the opening hours are Monday- Saturday 9am-4pm, Sunday 10am-4pm.

During December, they are Monday - Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 10am-4pm.
