Rutland Day is an annual celebration of the county's history and heritage, this year taking place on 12 September.

To mark the occasion, Rutland County Council have announced there will be free parking in all council-owned car parks across Rutland on the day.

The celebrations for Rutland Day will take place at Oakham Castle, which will bring together live entertainment, historic re-enactors and family activities to do with the county's rich past and current culture.

This year's events will include an authentic living history camp with the Ferres Household Medieval Re-enactment Group, which will showcase what life would have been like at the time for soldiers, craftspeople, artisans and other residents.

Discover their unique skills, hear stories from the past and witness live demonstrations.

There will also be lawn games, outdoor crafts by Root and Branch Out, circus skills workshop and family games outside the castle and stalls from local artists and creatives inside.

Additionally, there will be brand new mini walking tours that will allow attendees to take a step back in time to discover some of the key characters and buildings from Oakham's past, uncovering little known secrets of the historic town.

Free parking will be available all day in council-owned car parks across Oakham, Uppingham and Rutland's other villages, which the council hopes will encourage residents to make a day of the celebrations, visiting Oakham Castle and then shopping, eating and exploring other spots in Rutland.
