Coronavirus crisis: Welland Vale garden centre in Uppingham plans Friday re-opening

The Welland Vale garden centre in Uppingham is planning to re-open on Friday.

The latest government guidance is that garden centres can re-open from tomorrow

But Annie Burns, director of Welland Vale Garden Inspirations, wants the extra time to ensure the safety of staff and customers.

Prior to the Prime Minister's announcements yesterday and Sunday, the centre on Glaston Road, Uppingham, was busy preparing for a re-opening, making changes for safety reasons.

Measures include screens going up to help protect staff and there will be a one-way system.

The centre will only open from 10am to 3pm Wednesdays to Sundays only. It will be closed Monday and Tuesday to the public but orders can still be taken by phone or email.

But the garden centre will open on Bank Holiday Monday.

Shopping baskets will not be available, only trolleys to limit handling. The trolleys will be cleaned and the centre encourages all customers to wear gloves.

The customer toilet will be closed and there will be no gift wrapping service.

Welland Vale will only allow two people from the same household. No under 16 will be allowed either.

Annie continued: "We are open for those who have a good idea what they are after. We are not open for browsing, a day out or somewhere to do your daily exercise or meeting up with friends. Please try to avoid touching products you do not intend to buy.

"We are restricting the number on the shop and car park so you may be asked to queue outside or in the car. We appreciate your cooperation."

Car parking will be limited. If the car park is full, customers are asked to wait for the next car to leave.

The garden centre will not be accepting cash. Card payment, and contactless payments will be encouraged. It will be accepting national gift vouchers and Welland Vale vouchers.

The garden centre's 'call and collect' service is still running from 3pm-to-5pm daily.

It's delivery service is also still running and is free within 25 miles to those who spend over £50.

But Annie warns delivery may take longer than usual and the centre is unable to give exact delivery days and times.

Appointments for a more assisted shopping experience can be booked between 3pm and 5pm.

The orchard cafe is currently closed.

Annie added: "There may seem a lot to take in but it's for everyone's safely."
