Network Rail engineering works: allow extra time for road journeys through Oakham

Network Rail has confirmed that engineers will begin major work on the railway in Leicestershire next week, affecting level crossings in Rutland.

Between Tuesday 28 May and Sunday 2 June inclusive, all lines through Market Harborough station will be closed, meaning no trains will be able to travel on the Midland Main Line between Market Harborough and Leicester.

As a result, some services will be temporarily diverted, increasing the number of trains passing over level crossings, particularly in the Oakham and Melton Mowbray areas.

Level crossings which will be particularly affected by an increased number of train services are:

Oakham level crossing

Brooksby level crossing

Asfordby level crossing (Station Lane, Asfordby)

Rearsby level crossingBroome Lane level crossing

Over the six days these level crossings will see an increased number of services passing over them which will mean an increase in the amount of time level crossing barriers are down.

During this period level crossing users are advised to allow additional time for their journey.

Network Rail have advised Rutland County Council that the six-day closure of the railway at Market Harborough is needed to allow engineers to safely connect almost four kilometres of newly-laid track to the existing railway.
