Oakham Angling Society hoping to hook a new rowing boat

Oakham Angling Society is hoping to hook a catch of a different kind - a replacement rowing boat for the course fishing club's Oakham Canal fishery.

The society's inflatable boat has been consigned to the scrapheap after numerous punctures caused by jagged overhanging branches.

And now it is hoping someone will step in and offer members a cheap and cheerful rigid rowing boat.

Ian Wood, society committee member, told Oakham Nub News: "I bought the inflatable for the club about five years ago and for £80 it lasted well.

"But it got holed beyond repair and we badly need a new one to undertake all kinds of maintenance we can't manage from the canal bank.

"This includes cutting overhanging branches, clearing rubbish and weeds from the water as well as removing broken fishing tackle caught on trees to keep the wildlife safe.

"Because of the work required we need something that won't puncture on all the spiky branches that overhang the water...and that's preferably a fibreglass boat.

"The problem is even older ones are expensive so we are hoping someone will be able to help - any condition will do, as long as it's cheap and floats."
