Rutland MP Alicia Kearns has pledged her backing for efforts to create a community radio station in the county.

Her move follows Rutland Council yesterday announcing that it is setting up a project to investigate the feasibility of establishing a community radio station for Rutland.

The decision follows a rebranding of the county's current local radio station and a move for it to focus on more national content.

As Nub News also reported, popular Rutland Radio presenter Rob Persani gave his last breakfast show yesterday and was due to give his last morning show today.

Mrs Kearns told Nub News last night: "Our local stations have been a pillar of support to our communities here in Rutland, and I absolutely support the Council in their plans to create a community radio station. "

"Over the last few weeks I have offered to support in any way I can, and I look forward to helping RCC on this fantastic project, and seeing it come to fruition."
