Rutland MP Alicia Kearns has hailed the progress made by the government in its vaccination programme.

But residents have pointed out how the government is giving mixed messages in the comments underneath her social media post.

The 33-year-old MP, who as reported by Nub News as happy to take a second AstraZeneca vaccine, gave an update on the vaccine roll-out in Rutland and Melton on Facebook.

Mrs Kearns said today: "Yesterday we reached our target of offering a vaccine to all those in priority groups 1 – 9 ahead of schedule – meaning anyone aged 45 or over can now book a COVID-19 vaccine in the UK.

"Our local clinicians are doing an amazing job in the vaccination effort, with three-quarters of all adults in Rutland and Melton have now had at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. What an achievement!

"That's 58,246 people whose lives are safer and who are protecting all of us.

"I would like to thank everyone, from the clinicians and the volunteers to those delivering the vaccine, for achieving this milestone."

However, Clair Bloom said underneath the MP's comment that the vaccines may not work against new variants, especially with the Prime Minister Boris Johnson warning of a third wave. She linked to a Sky News story featuring the Prime Minister saying lockdowns were the main reason for the drop in Covid-19 cases.

Terry Lee then linked to the same Sky News story noting Health Secretary Matt Hancock saying the vaccines have saved 10,000 lives.

He also linked to a tweet from radio presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer who said:"If it's the lockdown not the vaccines that have seen serious illness and deaths from Covid plummet, then they should have been steadily rising since a couple of weeks after schools went back on 8 March. Anyone spotted any data showing that? I'll wait... ."

The talk show host also tweeted: "If @BorisJohnson thinks the vaccines aren't the reason why we've seen plunging death rates from Covid among those who've been jabbed, he should probably also have a word with the @BorisJohnson

who tweeted this [see above picture] last Friday... Left hand, meet right hand."
