Rutland Police reassure dog owners on thefts

By The Editor 3rd Dec 2020

Oakham Police has sought to reassure residents about dog thefts.

The move follows much commentary on the subject on social media and reports of dogs being stolen.

Oakham Police tweeted yesterday: "We would like to reassure dog owners in #Rutland that although we did have 1 report of a theft of dog last month this particular dog was reunited with its owner.

"We accept that people are worried but #Rutland is a very safe place for you to exercise your dog."

Among the comments on social media, Andrea Doyle said: "Rutland Police, Your urgent help is needed.

"A young Sprocker pup escaped from the dog walk adjacent to the lay-by on the B668 Greetham. Picked up man in Citroen Berlingo promising to take him to Vet. Not seen since. Details on FB Oakham Neighbours inc. Reg. No #bringthispuphome"

Social media has been abuzz with similar posts in South Kesteven, leading Lincolnshire Police to issue a similar statement of reassurance earlier this week, also reporting one theft of a dog.
