Rutland Water Beach and Aqua Park is set to re-open this weekend after levels of blue green algae have fallen.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: "Following our latest water samples taken today we have seen levels of blue green algae reduce and we will be reopening the Aquapark, Watersports Centre and beach tomorrow, Saturday August 3.

"We will continue to monitor the water quality at Rutland Water throughout the coming weeks and will keep visitors updated with any changes on the Rutland Water Facebook page.

"We are sorry if the closures have caused any inconvenience but the health and safety of our staff and visitors is our main priority."

The popular beach and Aqua Park were closed after an outbreak of algae which can cause people to become 'very poorly'.

Anglian Water said safety had to come first.
