Rutland's Ram Jam Inn: Revised demolition plans for historic pub frequented by Dick Turpin receive further opposition

Fresh plans to demolish the historic Ram Jam Inn on the A1 in Rutland and built four retail units have attracted further opposition.

Last month, the Godwin Group submitted revised plans for the 1.67 acre site near Greetham Village , after an earlier application was refused at appeal in 2018.

The company says its latest proposals are more in keeping with the local vernacular and address concerns raised by local residents

However, Greetham Parish Council are still objecting and has told planning authority Rutland County Council that the scheme is still "unsightly overdevelopment" and "detrimental to the landscape and appearance of the area."

Stretton residents Mr and Mrs Robert Harrison oppose the scheme citing previous arguments raised in last year's planning inspectorate decision, renewing pleas to keep the historic former coaching inn.

Stretton Parish Council has told Rutland Council they neither oppose of support the latest application welcoming the jobs and redevelopment of a derelict site.

The parish council raised concerns over whether the local sewage system could cope with the extra development, it had concerns over the ability of locals to access the site, also noting the proposals spoke of fast food units aimed at passers-by, when some locals had said they would prefer something like a M&S Simply Food store.

Greetham Garage has told the council it was neither for or against the development, but feared it might attract litter problems.

The Ram Jam Inn, located by the A1 northbound at Greetham, is said to have been frequented by highwayman Dick Turpin in the 18th Century. It has been empty since 2013.
