UP CLOSE: The Railway Inn at Oakham
A popular Oakham bar is set to re-open in june under new management.
The Railway Inn was previously run by Shaun Jackson for the previous seven years, but will now be run by Kay Moult and her partner John.
Kay told Nub News: "We are originally from Kidderminster but obviously moved to Oakham to take over The Railway. We have both worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and decided to take a leap at running a pub as it is something we can do together as with our previous jobs, we were like ships in the night.
"The Railway is known as a live music venue, this is something we will be continuing, we will also be hosting comedy night for the first time.
"We will be reopening the pub kitchen for the first time in years and will be offering a daily, home cooked carvery. We are hoping the addition of food will bring new faces to venue plus lots of old faces too."
The re-opening is planned for Monday June 17th, following government guidelines and the kitchen will be open for service from Friday 21st June.
Kay continued: "If the Prime Minister's lockdown map stays in place, we will be able to open without restrictions from Monday 21st June, with a big night of live music planned on Saturday 26th June from 9pm."
Due to COVID restrictions, bar service will be a little more challenging as the pub will have to implement table service but Kay says this is nothing she and John haven't faced before in a successful way.
Until then, the venue on Station Road, which has its own Platform One music venue, will be undergoing a refurbishment.
Already, Kay and John have been whetting the appetites of prospective customers with a string of announcements of what they can expect.
The couple have been having talks with the International Wrestling Association and on Friday 2nd July, they will be hosting a night of live, family friendly, action packed professional wrestling with an 8pm bell time.
They also said on Facebook: "We are also set to be hosting our first comedy night featuring a selection of stand up comedians from around the country."
The couple also said: " We have bands, duos and solo artists booked for the rest of 2021. We are pleased to announce that our first live music event will take place on Saturday 26th June with the fantastic Gareth Jones Music.
"Please keep an eye on the page for more upcoming events, guaranteed blow your socks off!"
They added: "We can't wait to finally meet you all!"
