The auction of a town hall has been postponed until next month for legal reasons.

Victoria Hall on Oakham's High Street in Rutland was due to be auctioned off by BTG Eddisons at 11am this morning (October 28).

According to trustees of the hall, the sale was deferred "to allow further time for the necessary legal matters relating to the proposed sale to be completed".

A revised auction date has yet to be announced.

Victoria Hall was put up for sale earlier this month after years of financial complications involving several grants from Oakham Town Council.

All proceeds from the sale of the hall, guided at over £55,000, will go to "charitable purposes", subject to approval by the Charity Commission.
