A round-up of the latest golf reports from Greetham Valley, by Bill Archer.

Gents Mid-week Stableford: 23 October (The Lakes Course)

A field of 45 players experienced damp but good conditions with soft ground underfoot and produced some very good scoring in the competition (CSS 73 Par: 72). It was won by Darren Want (Away Hcp) with a blistering 41 points, courtesy of four birdies and seven pars.

He was followed home by Stuart Rose (15 hcp), who managed a solid 38 points, narrowly beating Jon Baxter (13) on countback, who in turn pipped Micky Fish (15) into fourth place on countback. Interestingly, only six players managed to play to or under their handicaps.

Ladies Past Captain's Trophy: 23 October (The Lakes Course)

All competitors enjoyed a hearty breakfast before venturing out onto The Lakes Course, when Sheila Douty (11), who was Lady Captain alongside Men's Captain Trevor Smith a few years ago, won the event on countback with 32 points, achieving two birdies and four pars. Susie Ellis (20) was second on 32 points followed by Susan Wiles (20) just one point behind on 31.

Ladies Midweek Stableford: 23 October (The Lakes Course)

The atrocious bout of weather we have suffered abated for a short period to allow the ladies time to complete the Midweek Stableford, which was won by Rachel Southwell (26) with an excellent 37 points, which gave her victory by two points over Irene Bastow (17), who herself had an excellent birdie on the fifth hole and a three points margin over third-placed Dee Hinch (30).

County Girls' Matchplay: 24 October (Carholme GC)

Izzy Haughton (7) celebrated her 17th birthday earlier in the week when she reached the final of the County Girls' Matchplay at Carholme, which she achieved in horrendous weather. She played some fabulous golf, with the immeasurable help of her caddie Isabella Condie! And to top it all off, she was cut to 7-handicap!

Ladies Poppy Appeal Medal: 27 October (The Valley Course)

The result of this tournament rounded off a triple celebration this week for winner Izzy Haughton (7) who returned a brilliant gross 73 nett 64 to win the Poppy Appeal Medal! She beat Dee Ginnity (10) into second place by a clear nine strokes with a dominant performance that included three birdies and six pars. Both ladies birdied the notoriously hard ninth hole! Third place went to Jo Robinson (13) with a gross 87 nett 74.

Gents' Poppy Appeal Medal: 27 October (The Valley Course)

Junior member Wilby Toothill (10) scored a great gross 62 to come in first ahead of Michael Temple (14) with a nett 62 on a comfortable countback advantage of four strokes, after both recorded gross 37's on the front nine. They were closely followed by Martin Thwaites (14) on nett 63, in what was a closely contested tournament that saw just four shots separating first and fifth positions!

Hole-in-One!!

Junior Yasmin Bass (22) scored an incredible ace on the 13th hole of The Valley Course on Sunday 27th October! Her amazing shot lasered in towards the pin and bounced just once before sinking into the hole! Huge congratulations from everyone at the Club Yasmin!

Seniors Winter League Round 1: Monday 28 October (The Lakes Course)

The first round of the Senior's Winter League got off to a fantastic start with the top three separated only on countback. Eddie Montgomery (9) with a birdie and nine pars got the drop on Keith Heppenstall (20) who has recently been in a rich vein of form, followed in third place by Stephen Wooldridge (13). The weather was dry for a change although it was bitterly cold on The Lakes Course!
