Ladies Friendly Team
Last Wednesday the ladies' team of Chris Edwards, Liz Haughton, Valda Austin, Susie Ellis, Dee Hinch, Cathy Steele, Eileen Pare and Sandy Begy played away at Belton Woods GC and secured a well fought 21/2 - 11/2 win.
This was all achieved in spite of very wet and challenging conditions, when every team member played amazingly well!
Gents' Friendly Team
On Saturday, the final gentlemen's friendly away match of the season took place at Stoke Rochford Golf Club, where the match was played competitively under favourable golfing conditions.
The hosts were very keen to take the spoils, to make amends for a miserable performance at GVGC last season, by fielding one of their strongest teams this season, with the majority of their players being regular competitors in club, regional and county leagues.
The notable GVGC performances of the day included victories for Max Maksymiw and Darren Child (2 and 1) and also Mark Dorsett and Micky Fish (4 and 3).
The pairing of Paul Clegg and Tony Mould only just hung on to halve their match, despite holding a 3-up lead throughout. A very strong comeback from the host opponents took its toll towards the end, but reputations were saved!
The remaining pairings were sadly unable to break down the tough competition, despite the majority holding off to the very end, where local course knowledge got the better of our players.
The match finished with a 61/2 – 21/2 win for the hosts.
Player of the Season was awarded by captain Packa Risi to Chris Hatch, for not only the being most consistent individual performer but displaying the ability to 'pull out of the hat' some spectacular performances.
Chris Ellis, another very popular team member, was awarded the Most Consistent and Challenging Player of the season prize.
Captain Packa Risi summed up the team's season saying: "This season closed with the team unbeaten at home and losing just two of its six away matches. The friendly team format has produced some standout personal performances and with last season's changes to the handicap playing format for the B team, I was expecting some absences this season, positively, the friendly format has been successful in maintaining its extensive talent pool."

Recent winner of the Bob Ford Tournament, Micky Fish (15.9), continued his hot spell, coming fourth with 38pts. The quality of play overall was very high, with 20 contestants scoring 33pts or more.
