Details of candidates standing in the UK General Election on 4 July to represent the Rutland and Stamford Parliamentary Constituency have been confirmed. 

The official Statement of Persons Nominated for the election was published by Rutland County Council on Friday 7 June and can be read online.

Rutland County Council is lead authority for the Rutland and Stamford Parliamentary Constituency, which covers the whole of Rutland, as well as parts of Harborough and South Kesteven.

Candidates standing in the election are as follows:

• Emma Louise Baker – The Green Party
• Joanna Mary Burrows – Rejoin EU
• Chris Clowes – Reform UK
• Alicia Alexandra Martha Kearns – The Conservative Party Candidate
• James Robert Moore – Liberal Democrats
• Joe Wood – Labour Party

The deadline for people to register to vote in time for the general election is midnight on Tuesday 18 June. The quickest and easiest way to do this is online by visiting: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. If you are unable to register online, please contact the local council where you live. 

Registered voters who want to vote by post or postal proxy must apply to their local council before 5.00pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024.  

The deadline to apply for a new proxy vote must reach your local council before 5pm on Thursday 26 June. 

Rutland residents can find more information about postal and proxy voting in the general election by visiting the Rutland County Council website.

Postal voters are being warned to read the information on their ballot papers carefully, following recent changes to national legislation. The easiest way to return postal votes is through the mail.

Any postal votes being returned by hand must be delivered to Rutland County Council's offices in Oakham, regardless of whether voters live in Rutland, Harborough or South Kesteven, unless they are returned to a polling station between 7am and 10pm on the day of the election, Thursday 4 July.

People voting in person at polling stations are being reminded about the need to bring a valid form of photo ID or Voter Authority Certificate with them when they go to cast their votes. Further information about voter ID requirements and valid forms of identification can be found on the Electoral Commission website or by contacting the local council where you live.

There are lots of opportunities to support the election process across Rutland, Harborough and South Kesteven by taking up any number of paid roles. These range from presiding officers and poll clerks to count assistants and postal vote clerks.
