Oakham Nub News has teamed up with a regular reader to share a regular 'Cocktail of the Week' feature, including classics, reinventions of familiar favourites and some crazy concoctions unique to Nub News.

A spicy, sweet and sour mix, the Poison Orchard is a unique cocktail that is a fiery alternative to the cold cider in a pub garden - perfect now that the summer months are on the return!

Read on to find out how to make this unusual mix.

Ingredients:

  • 50ml cider or perry
  • 50ml apple juice
  • 25ml Fireball
  • squeeze of lemon juice
  • top with tonic

Method:

  1. add your apple juice and lemon juice, cider and fireball to a mixing jug over ice
  2. stir until chilled
  3. strain into a tumbler
  4. top with a splash of tonic
  5. add ice if you prefer
