Plans to turn an unused field into a recreational park will be discussed again next week.

Uppingham Town Council has put out a call to local groups to find out what they would be interested in developing at the site behind the Elms housing estate off Leicester Road and an update on what's happening will be given at the full council meeting on Wednesday evening (5 November).

Space for a youth football club, archery club and dog walking are being considered with more ideas and interested parties coming forward as the weeks go by.

Town clerk Adam Lowe said the council wanted the town to be kept up to date with what is happening.

He said: "We are letting people know there are different organisations who are expressing an interest. We are trying to keep people with us on the journey."

The clerk said last week a children's services provider had expressed an interest in the site as well. Although the covenant on the land means it cannot be built on, temporary cabins, such as those in use at Uppingham Community College, could be sited on the land.

The council had allocated £5,000 towards coming up with plans for the site.

The proposal was discussed at last month's full council and there were some concerns raised about access to the new proposed park. Chair David Ainslie said the council would not come up with any scheme that would upset the residents of The Elms.

Also to be discussed at the meeting will be some potential projects that could be funded out of government regeneration money.

The meeting will take place at the town hall on High Street East at 7pm.
