Rutland and Stamford MP Alicia Kearns urges pensioners to check their eligibility for pension credit.

This comes amid reports of rising energy prices. The recently announced change to Winter Fuel Payments will impact an estimated 20,800 pensioners in Rutland and Stamford.

Eligible pensioners could receive up to £3,300 of extra support annually. Those who receive pension credit will also receive winter fuel support.

According to Kearns, 'Many pensioners are not aware that the pensioners in receipt of Pension Credit will also receive Winter Fuel Support.

'I have also called on the Government to delay changes by at least a year to ensure pensioners have time to plan for next Winter, and to protect Winter Fuel Support for all pensioners living with life-limiting or chronic conditions, who often have higher energy bill costs than others.'

To check eligibility, call 0800 99 1234 or apply online www.gov.uk/pension-credit . They will require the individual's National Insurance Number, bank details, and information about your income, savings and credit. If you are struggling, a friend or family member can help you to do this.

Pensioners also must live in England and have reached the State Pension Age to qualify.

Pensioners can check their eligibility via the government's Pension Credit calculator.
