An application to update the shop front at the former home of Barclays bank has been submitted to Rutland County Council (RCC).

The proposal is attached to 10 High Street, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6AN and is for a "New Shop Front".

If accepted, the ground floor will be used as a shop and glazing will be added.

The application reads: "We propose a new shop front replacing the poor-quality infill on the eastern side of the frontage. The ground floor will be used as a single shop and would benefit from the additional glazing that the Bank did not require.

"Although the property was constructed with a fully glazed opening to match the scale of the way through to the rear, we propose to match the detail on the western side (Loros)."

The proposal acknowledges the historic nature of the building and adds that re-instating a central doorway to balance the aesthetic "would be an option."

Find the application, which was submitted on 4 March, on the RCC planning portal under reference: 2024/0270/FUL | New Shop Front | 10 High Street Oakham Rutland LE15 6AN.
