An 88-year-old man from Langham has been found guilty for causing death by careless driving at Leicester Crown Court this week following a fatal motorbike crash in March 2025.

The incident, which happened on the A606 at Langham, took place when Brian's Piaggo PX motorcycle collided with a black Nissan Terrano.

Brian was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman in her 50s, who was a passenger on the motorbike, was taken to hospital.

Michael Gardner was found guilty with causing death by careless driving and causing injury by careless driving when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday 24 July.

For the death by careless driving sentence, he was given 13 months imprisonment suspended sentence for 18 months and for serious injury by careless driving, he received 4 months imprisonment concurrent suspended sentence for 18 months.

He has also received obligatory disqualification for two years and extended re-test and has a curfew and will be electronically monitored for six months.

According to the Leicester Mercury, Gardner claimed Mr Rudkin had 'killed himself' by going too fast and, when asked by police if he felt any responsibility for what happened, Gardner said 'No, none whatsover.'

The Leicester Mercury also reported that Gardner sat in his car watching while passers-by tried to resuscitate him.

Brian's wife Alison was a passenger on the back of the bike during the incident and has spoken out publicly describing Brian as a 'dearly loved husband, father to two boys and grandfather to five,' and as her 'best friend as well as my husband.'
