BBC presenter awarded High Sheriff Award at Uppingham Community College
Geraldine Feehally High Sheriff of Rutland paid a visit to Uppingham Community College this week, recognising a BBC presenter with the High Sheriff Award.
Rutland's High Shelf is one of 54 across the country who attend Royal visits, represent the county and make a range of visits across the county, maintaining involvement with the local community.
The Office of High Sheriff is a non-political Royal appointment that lasts for one year.
Formal responsibilities include ensuring the well-being of High Court Judges on circuit, attending Royal visits to the county, acting as a returning officer for parliamentary elections, proclaiming the accession of a new Sovereign and attending ceremonial and community functions.
Having been appointed in March 2023, Mrs Feehally has attended a range of events, from concerts and fundraisers to charity functions in Aid of a charity that she is heavily involved with, Hope into Action.
This month, the High Sheriff spent time visiting the Design and Technology Department at Uppingham Community College and met with students, parents and staff.
The High Sheriff also took the opportunity to present Matthew Wilson, Garden designer and BBC Gardeners Question Time presenter, with the High Sheriff Award in recognition of his commitment and contribution to in the design and planting of the Sensory Garden at Uppingham Community College.
Both Matthew and his wife Jane continue to support the school community as the Sensory Garden develops.
