Rutland County Council will now open Brooke Road in Oakham for two hours a day for pedestrians in the week, but local people continue to be frustrated.

The closure of Brooke Road in Oakham town centre has caused chaos for local people and visitors, with traffic congestion around rush hour.

The Council has announced that from today (4th November), pedestrians will be allowed to use the road and level crossing between 8am-9am and 3pm-4pm on weekdays. This will be supervised by workers from the Brooke Road Allotments development for health and safety reasons.

This has been met with frustration by locals.

Taking to Facebook, one commented: "Brooke Hill academy start at 8:50 [am]. That's not enough time to get back through the crossing after dropping children off... I don't think this has been thought through very well given school drop off time... it's still gonna take us over an hour to get home."

Others commented saying: "the whole situation is a joke."

Irritation has grown in the area as the work has continued longer than previously expected, having initially been planned to be complete by 11th October. The work will now continue until 30th November.
