Rutland Council have announced that the meeting, scheduled for Monday 6 February, to discuss the closure of Catmose Sports Centre, has reached full capacity.

On 26 January 2023, Rutland County Council (RCC) announced that "sadly, the Council has been unable to find an operator who can run Catmose Sports Centre at zero cost", meaning that the centre will close to the public on 31 March 2023.

Catmose Sports currently has around 900 members, as well as casual users and members of local sports clubs.

This announcement caused uproar among the local community, who pointed out that Oakham, the County Town of Rutland, soon will not have a public leisure centre, pool, cinema, banks and other amenities which attract tourists and new residents alike.

Following this, Rutland County Council announced that they would be hosting a meeting to discuss this closure on Monday 6 February 2023 at the Council Chambers, Catmos Street, from 7pm.

This event has already reach full capacity, so residents hoping to ask questions or attend the meeting have been told to do so via a zoom link to be put on the RCC website on the day, and to submit questions via the council website in advance of the meeting.

Rutland County Council shared on their social media: "We've now reached full capacity for our Catmose Sports Centre public meeting at 7pm on Monday 6 February. Everyone who has a seat at the meeting has been notified. Only those who've received confirmation that they've been allocated a seat will be able to enter the Council Chamber.

"You can still watch the meeting live online and a Zoom link will be posted on our website at 10am Monday morning.

"You can also continue to submit questions for the meeting. These will be answered on the night and included in our revised set of FAQs on our website."

While the Council have opted to organise this meeting, following backlash from their announcement to close the centre, it appears that the decision will not be revoked.

As such, general access to leisure facilities at Catmose Sports Centre will stop at the end of March 2023 and SLL, the current centre operators, will be contacting all of their members via email.
