Charity football match raises £1,000 for The Air Ambulance Service

By Guest 26th Nov 2021

A charity football match between a Rutland Plastics 11 and Oakham United 11 on Saturday raised a grand total of £1,000 for the The Air Ambulance Service.

The service flies two local air ambulances across the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland (DLRAA) and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire (WNAA).

The match at Oakham United FC's ground ended 5-2 to the Oakham side and was watched by a good size crowd.

Hotdogs and burgers proved very popular with all the players given free grub as a thank you for taking part.

After the match there was a raffle and singer songwriter Shane Poole entertained players and spectators in the Oakham United clubroom.

Event organiser and Rutland Plastics employee Kev Dawson said: "It was a great afternoon.

"The weather held off for most of the match - apart from a brief hailstorm which the crowd managed to dodge, but the players didn't.

"I want to say a big thank you to all those who supported the event and helped raise a lot of money for a very worthwhile cause. The amount raised exceeded our expections."
