Chicken shed approved for outside of Rutland village despite public opposition

A major poultry shed has received planning approval from Rutland County Council, despite local opposition.

Members of its planning committee made the decision last week, after planning staff recommended approval.

Residents feared the scheme on the grounds of potential pollution but officers said controls agreed with the government's Environment Agency and the distance of the plan from the village will not cause pollution issues.

As Nub News reported recently, Paul Hinch of Hinch Enterprises sought to build the shed on arable land east of Cottesmore Road, Market Overton.

His application said the site will operate with 3 flocks of birds per annum, producing an annual throughput of 240,000 birds per annum.

In a report prepared for last weeks' meeting, officers told the councillors: "The use of land for an agricultural building is acceptable in principle and with landscaping proposals and the height of the building relative to the road it will not present an unduly prominent structure in the landscape.

"The scheme is therefore policy compliant and there are no sustainable reasons for withholding planning permission."
