Rutland 'scrubs' group to continue 'For the Love of Sewing'

A sewing group that started to make PPE for emergency workers is to carry on after the coronavirus crisis.

And as part of this, the group For The Love Of Scrubs Stamford, Lincs/Rutland is to become For the Love of Sewing, Stamford, Lincs/ Rutland.

The group's Miriam Spring Davies explained: "We have always said we would respond to demand, and for many months now, you have been sewing much more than just scrubs!

"At every request, you have been adapting and adding more patterns to your sewing boxes. From scrubs, to hats, to headbands, to washbags, to paramedic bags, to face coverings – you name it, you've done it! So we felt it was only appropriate to change 'scrubs' to 'sewing' in our title."

"We are still very much part of and in association with the amazing For The Love Of Scrubs - Original Group community that the powerhouse and brilliant Ashleigh Linsdell set up.

"We will certainly still be making scrubs, and everything we are currently making, but it'll also give us room to respond to requests we've been getting for other types of needed garments too.

"We can't predict what'll happen in terms of Covid 19 and the next few months, so we felt this small but significant name change would allow us to be flexible, whilst still providing scrubs and everything we are currently used to making. We're opening our arms a little bit wider to the community."

The announcement follows the scrubs group growing to more than 1,100 volunteers and it working with other volunteers from the Helping with Headbands group.

Last month, they ran stall on Stamford Market, raising more than £2,500 to continue their activities.

A second stall held on Bourne market on Saturday August 1 raised nearly £1,700 to go back into the groups.

A third market stall will be held in Stamford this Saturday August 8.

The website for the new group can be found here.
