Christmas is coming to Oakham Castle with a charity concert by local Ukulele band
The D'Ukes of Rutland are returning to Oakham Castle once again for their popular Christmas performance.
Accompanied by bass, bongos, banjo and kazoos, Rutland D'Ukes will be performing familiar favourites and festive hits on approximately 20 ukelele on Saturday 21st December at 1.30pm. The perfomance is free to attend but donations to the Friends of Oakham Castle would be appreciated.
"Our concerts at the Castle are one of the highlights of our year," said Founder Henry Lynch, "We aim to have a lot of fun and hope to make the audience smile and maybe join in and sing along. Last time in the castle, we even had some of them dancing in the aisles."
In the weeks running up to the performance, the D'Ukes will be practicing, as they do every week, on Monday evenings in Ovation Bar in Oakham. Everyone is welcome and they invite the public, ukulele player or not, to come along and join them for a sing-along and a cocktail – how better could you spend a Monday night?
Recently, a video of their practice went viral online when Ovation Bar posted a clip on their Instagram. The clip has now amassed over 4 million views.
Throughout December, they will also be supporting a number of community groups by performing at their events, including Mencap, Parkinson's Group and Lavendar Mill. Earlier in the year, their busking on the High Street in Oakham raised over £300 for Children in Need and they have also supported Rutland Foodbank by donating their performance fees.
