The closure of the A606 on Friday has been revealed as being due to a woman falling from a bridge near Greater Casterton. The A1 was subsequently closed while police managed the incident.

The incident was attended by Leicestershire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service, with an air ambulance attending the scene.

The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a spokeswoman from Leicestershire Police.

The death, while not being treated as suspicious, still required a thorough investigation by the Police. This led to road closures being kept in place for several hours after the incident, leading to traffic disruption in both Oakham and Melton.
