Coronavirus crisis: 'Rutland, Ready Steady Cook is launched

Rutland businesses are sharing their recipes to help us eat better during the lockdown.

The move comes as acclaimed Rutland chef Brian Baker, who was once a personal chef to Sir Elton John, will appear on Radio 4's 'You and Yours' Programme on Thursday April 9 to show what can easily be made.

He will also talk about the recently launched 'Rutland Ready Steady Cook' scheme, which aims to promote the county's hospitality industry.

Brian said: "Rutland, Steady Cook is a great chance for the whole community to work together, stay connected and keep each other's spirits up.

"While so many people are confined to their homes, the simple act of getting into the kitchen and cooking together as a family is one of the most sociable pastimes.

"Cooking mindfully can be a great stress reliever and at the same time young and old can learn valuable life skills."

The idea for Rutland, Steady Cook is the brainchild of Vicky Binley, whose company Nimble Media produces the official Discover Rutland publication.

She devised the idea after seeing haggis in a freezer, serving it for two days and then turning it into a bolognese sauce.

Ready Steady Rutland is encouraging eateries to share recipes and promote the county, as it also encourages residents to cook from scratch rather than rely on convenience food.

Mary Copley, Tourism Officer for Discover Rutland, commented: ""Local eateries are keen to get involved and we've already received lots of recipes to share.

"We're pushing Rutland, Steady Cook as far as we can, to help as many businesses as possible to stay in touch with customers over the coming weeks and months.

"By asking our followers to share photos of their creations on social media using #RutlandSteadyCook, our hope is this little initiative will go some way to unite them to others in the

same situation."
