Rutland has experienced a slump in the number of coronavirus cases.

The Daily Mail has this week reported that the county was one of only 17 local authorities in the country to report a fall in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Using Public Health England data, the newspaper said Rutland experienced an 86% fall in cases between September 4 and September 11, giving it a weekly rate of 2.5 cases per 100,000.

Based on the county's 39,000 population, this means Rutland experienced just one case that week.

However, more recent data shows cases have since risen, though they remain well below neighbouring areas.

A 'rolling average' prepared by the Press Association using Health England Data says in the run up to yesterday (Tuesday), says Rutland has experienced five cases in the past week, giving it a weekly rate of 12.5 cases per 100,000.

This compares with two cases the week before, with a rate of five per 100,000.

South Kesteven was shown to have a weekly rate of 19 per 100,000 based on its 27 cases over the week. This compares with 12.6 based on the 18 cases reported the week before.

Melton has seen numbers of cases fall from 16 to 9, with its rates falling from 31.2 to 17.6 per 100,000.

The Press Association notes that cities have reported sharp increases, with Leicester's rate increasing from 56.7 to 86.4 as 306 new cases were reported in the week until yesterday, September 15.

As Nub News reported yesterday figures have risen across Greater Lincolnshire.

But the region experienced no deaths from the pandemic on Tuesday.

Greater Lincolnshire now reports 4,021 cases (up 24)

2,928 in Lincolnshire (up 15)

826 in North Lincolnshire (up seven)

267 in North East Lincolnshire (up two)

The 2,928 for Lincolnshire is an increase of 15 from Monday and an increase of 99 on Friday, the last time Nub News presented a full range of figures.

It represents 384.6 cases per 100,000, which compared to an England average of 573.9 cases per 100,000, based on its total of 323,029 cases reported yesterday.

Elsewhere in the region, Leicester reported 6,240 cases in total, an increase of 197 since Friday. This gives a rate of 1,761.6 per 100,000 cases, more than four times the Lincolnshire rate and almost six times the Rutland rate.

Leicestershire reports 4092 cases, an increase of 93 on Friday, giving a rate on Tuesday of 579.5 per 100,000.

Among the districts or lower tier authorities, Melton is up 8 since Friday to 246 (480.4).

Peterborough is up 24 to 1727 (853.9).

Rutland is up three to 123 (308.1).

South Holland is up 12 at 736 (774.6).

South Kesteven is up 2 on Tuesday to 498, an increase of 21 since Friday. This amounts to 349.7 cases per 100,000.
