A leading Rutland councillor says the county council does not have the resources to re-open the Cottesmore tip safely due to the continued pandemic.

Councillor Gordon Brown, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, also speaks about the future of the North Luffenham tip, in a video posted several days ago on You Tube.

Coun Brown says that the Cottesmore tip is small- half the size of North Luffenham- and would need extra staff for it to open safely due to social distancing requirements.

As an alternative, there has been extra kerbside waste collection and bulky waste collection in recent months.

Furthermore, North Luffenham is set to have an extra gate to allow traffic to move in and out more freely, as previously reported by Nub News.

Coun Brown confirmed of Cottesmore "there are no plans to shut it permanently. We don't have the resources to re-open it safely at present."
