A popular cafe has re-opened in Oakham.

Ellen Cryer has re-opened Hungry Birds at 2 Burley Way after being closed for nearly two months due to the lockdown.

Ellen, who took over the business at the end of last year, has made some changes to the venture to ensure safety for herself, staff and customers.

They include screens between staff and customers and with the premises having two entries, customers come in at one end and out of the other, so they need not come into contact with each other.

Only one customer is allowed in at a time.

Hungry Birds offers a take-away service, but no deliveries.

The menu includes a range of teas and coffees, salads, breakfasts, wraps, toasties and many, many cakes, plus salads.

Ellen said: "We do everything."

Since re-opening yesterday, Hungry Birds reports business has been 'really lovely.'

Customers say that the cafe may be the first to re-open in Oakham along with another venue selling cakes.

Ellen added: "Everybody has been supporting us. People have been missing a decent coffee. We have had people travelling in from Nottingham, all over."
