A Rutland garden centre is reporting a successful first opening weekend after the lockdown.

Welland Vale Garden Centre in Uppingham closed in March to meet government requirements, but launched a home delivery service soon afterwards.

On Friday, the centre in Glaston Road, Uppingham reopened, two days later than many other centres, but managing director Annie Burns wanted the extra time to help prepare for the re-opening with measures aimed to ensure the safety of staff and customers.

Annie told Oakham Nub News: "The firrst three days went really well. The weather was perfect for getting everyone in the gardening spirit too.

"Customers were genuinely pleased to be back , as were we. Everyone was in fine spirts and feedback was very positive to say they felt safe, how well and clearly laid out and how safe the staff looked too. So all I'm all went very well."

At times, there would be a small queue to enter, but even then, the wait times were not long.

When it came to what was selling, Annie said: "Lots of garden furniture and water features and a good general mixture going out but above everything else was plants."

She added: "I have to say our home grown plants are really looking great at the minute."

Welland Vale Inspirations is opening currently Wednesday - Sunday 10am-3pm only. Furthermore, children are not permitted and no more than two people at a time.

Further entry details can be found here.
