Rutland continues to report a declining weekly rate for Covid-19 after four cases were reported in the county yesterday (Tuesday).

Yesterday's reported cases, according to Public Health England, puts Rutland on a total of 344 cases since figures were first recorded in March.

This gives the county a rate of 861.6 cases per 100,000 of population to date, which is just over half of the England average of 1620.7 cases per 100,000.

Rutland's figures are also a quarter of the 3249.6 per 100,000 of Leicester and and around half of the 1650.2 rate of Leicestershire.

Rutland is also doing better than Lincolnshire, which has a rate of 1045.7 and nearby South Kesteven district on 992.8 cases per 100,000.

The seven day figures (shown) taken from the government's own Covid-19 Tracker compare Rutland with other nearby districts and areas also show Rutland performing better than many other places.

Yesterday's figures give Rutland a seven day rate of 80.1 cases per 100.000, based on the 32 cases reported over the past week.

One further death has been reported this week, putting the county on 16 deaths overall. This latest death adds to one other recorded over the weekend.

In the week to Saturday, Rutland had reported 40 cases.

In the week to Saturday October 17, Rutland reported 45 cases.

Such weekly rates are now reported as they iron out the daily fluctuations in case numbers, which often take a drop at the weekend. They also show clearer the current situation than the running total to date.

The figures come as MPs today are due to vote on whether to support the second lockdown for England as announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Saturday, which is due to come into effect tomorrow.

Rutland MP Alicia Kearns, as previously reported by Nub News, is seeking the views on her constituents on the issue.

The MP said on social media at the weekend: "Rutland has seen its rate per 100,000 increase by 207% between the 7 day period ending 28 September and the latest 7 day period."

Ms Kearns added: "At rates like that, the Government has to take serious action to arrest the rise in cases, and the steadily increasing hospitalisation rates throughout the country.

"Contrary to some reports, we are moving quickly, and are moving into lockdown faster than many other European countries did, who all moved at a higher point on the disease curve.

"I am now assessing the data to determine what is the right approach for us and the nation."
