24th Apr 2020 | Local News

The Rutland Agricultural Society will Zoom into the internet age on Monday with a virtual presentation.

The talk, will be a first for the organisation, as it will be delivered live over the internet using the Zoom platform.

Agricultural specialist Robert Miles will speak on "Four Weeks on the Farm explaining what has been going on during this period of lockdown and why.

He also aims to give those interested in the countryside a better understanding of the importance of the spring field work in the agricultural calendar.

The society says people can join the talk for free from 6.45pm on Monday 27th April via this link.

This will take you to a "waiting room " and then the host will "admit " you to the talk just before it starts at 7pm.

If you have not used Zoom before then please go to www. zoom.us beforehand to find out about this software and go to this link here to get setup and install the appropriate Zoom app for your device.

You do not have to sign up to Zoom but you will need the software installed – this is free for you to use when you are attending a talk like this.

A spokesman said: "You are very welcome to pass the link to this talk to any of your friends or family that might be interested in attending too. We have the capacity for 100 people to attend this session so entry is on a first come, first served basis.

"Robert Miles will be your host as well as speaker for this first talk. During the talk, everyone except the speaker will be muted so you can just relax and listen with no other interruptions and you will not interrupt anyone else.

"The session will last about 45 minutes and after his talk, Robert hopes to be able to answer some of your questions. If you log off early by mistake, or you join late, then you may not be admitted to the talk straightaway as Robert will be busy speaking!

"During the talk there is a typed "chat" facility we intend to use to send Robert questions and comments. We'll explain the use of this at the start of the talk.

"Finally, the talk will be recorded and uploaded to the Society's website after the event, along with the associated powerpoint slides so you can view this at a later date. We hope you enjoy the talk."
