North Luffenham tip expects a busy Bank Holiday weekend, after it successfully re-opened yesterday.

Rutland County Council re-opened the tip yesterday following two months of closure as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Diversions and other measures have been introduced to help ensure the safety of staff and customers.

Councillor Gordon Brown, Cabinet Member for Waste and the Environment, commented: "We saw a steady flow of visitors to North Luffenham Household Waste and Recycling Centre throughout yesterday.

"Queues were manageable and we're grateful to everyone who waited patiently to use the site. We would also like to thank Parish Councils and local residents for their understanding, as well as our contractors who are working to manage site operations and traffic.

He added: "We expect the site to get busier throughout this week and predict a big increase in visitors over the bank holiday weekend.

"We would again ask that people only visit the site if they have waste that can't be stored safely at home. If you do need to visit, please separate and sort your waste before traveling. This will help reduce the length of time you need to spend unloading."
