Oakham School students opened their GCSE results along with the rest of the country yesterday, with the Head saying it was 'a cause for real celebration.'

This year's cohort had an impressive 94% pass rate, with 17% of results being Grade 9s.

Additionally, 34% of results were Grade 8-9s (the equivalent of straight A*s in the old grading system), and almost half of results were Grade 9-7.

'We could not be more pleased for our GCSE students, whose hard work has been rewarded with excellent results.' said Headteacher Lucy Pearson.

'These outcomes represent an important milestone and are a cause for real celebration.

'Exam results are of course only one measure of success - our students contribute enormously to the life of the school through their interests, character and service to others, and we are just as proud of these achievements.'
