With schools closed and families stuck at home, Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust is providing free Osprey Home School online resources so children can still learn more about nature and join in with World Osprey Week.

World Osprey Week celebrates the return of these spectacular birds as they migrate back from Africa to the UK to breed over the summer and is an excellent way of engaging young people with a love of wildlife.

Usually, schools all over the world, particularly along the migration journey, are encouraged to run their own World Osprey Week events, and Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust visit classes to teach students about the ospreys' migratory journeys.

This year, World Osprey Week runs from 23rd – 27th March and Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust have adapted activities to help families get involved at home.

The Trust is providing free resources and daily activities on their website for people indoors to learn all about these amazing birds of prey, with ways to draw ospreys, watch a live osprey nest via web cam and write osprey-inspired stories.

Jackie Murray Osprey Education Officer for Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust said: "This year, we have developed 'Osprey Home School'; we want families everywhere to be able to celebrate World Osprey Week from home and follow along online.

"It is a perfect way for us to engage young people with nature and we hope that these resources will help them feel more connected at this uneasy time."
