Rutland MP Alicia Kearns has pledged to fight on for publicans after a major pub owner announced a relief package, including partial rents, for its tenants.
Many pubs are reeling as the government-imposed lockdown is preventing them from making a living, yet the owners of the buildings they operate in are still demanding full rent.
Many owners of the pubs, such as breweries, have announced a 'rent holiday' but some companies like Stonegate have not.
This led Rutland MP Alicia Kearns to lead a campaign , attracting the support of around 60 MPs to demand such a holiday for their tenants.
Yesterday, Stonegate announced a multi-million pound aid package for its tenants , with partial rent relief amid other measures, but Mrs Kearns believes this does not go far enough.
The MP said on twitter last night: "I promised to fight for my local pubs who've landlords demanding rent during lockdown. I brought together MPs to call for support for pubs across the country including 7 local pubs. Today I welcome Stonegate / Ei announced a multi-million £ packages but will push for rent holiday."
