Rutland Farm Park is welcoming volunteers wishing to get work experience and boost their volunteer credits for challenges such as the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Rutland Farm Park is a popular local attraction run by one Rutland family, with yours in mind, and this weekend they will be celebrating 6 years of hard work, family fundraisers, animal rescue and much more.

Headed up by owners and hands-on managers Clive and Julie, the farm has been a top spot for grownups and children since it reopened in 2017 after being closed for over a decade.

It brags a range of attractions and features, including a café, play park, animal petting and feeding sessions, a selection of home and handmade and allergy-friendly goodies available at Daphne's tea room, seasonal activities and a collection of rare breed animals.

Now, the opportunity has once again opened up for volunteers to join the team on the farm.

This follows Farm Amy breaking her ankle. She will be in a cast for six to eight weeks, so the team would appreciate all of the help that they can get - and patience from visitors due to the team being understaffed in Amy's absence.

The team said: "Poor Farmer Amy had a little accident the other night on the farm. She has broken her ankle in 3 different places and is waiting for surgery to have it pinned back together, all from slipping over. Please be careful out there especially when we had all that rain the other day."

They continued: "We have some spaces on Saturday mornings for either Duke of Edinburgh students or upcoming Vet Students to help on the farm on Saturdays from 8am.

"You will be helping on the farm with mucking out and anything else that needs to be done. You will learn all about animal welfare and you will get to have some fun with the animals once the work is done."

Farm Amy added: "Let's just say I don't want to break another bone. I'm in a cast at the moment and am waiting to have an operation to have it all pinned back together. Very painful.

"As for volunteers, I am looking for fun and enthusiastic volunteers who love animals but also keen to be with us. It's hard graft but caring for the animals is so much fun."

If you feel this would be for you, please drop Amy an email on [email protected].

The team are also getting ready to celebrate their 6th birthday with a family fun day to bring in the end of the summer "with a bang".

The fun day will take place from 12pm until 4pm on Sunday 17 September and all are welcome to join the celebrations.

The team said: "It's our 6th birthday this September, so this only means one thing - it's time for another fun day! Let's see the end of the summer with a bang."

The day will include a range of activities and will be purple themed as the team continue their efforts to raise money for blood cancer research, this month supporting Lymphoma Action.

Last month, they raised over £1,000 for Blood Cancer UK.
