Extra time for Oakham housing campaigners

By The Editor 4th Feb 2021

A deadline for public comments on a controversial housing scheme in Rutland has been extended.

Rutland County Council has extended tomorrow's February 5 deadline for public comment following an outcry against the scheme for 62 homes on the edge of Oakham.

As Nub News recently reported, Mr Gareth Ball and Ms Amy Ball, plus Ben Ward of Rosconn Strategic Land, Stratford Upon Avon, seek to build the homes off Braunston Road.

However, a Facebook campaign against the scheme set up by Scott Henderson and other residents seems to be winning support.

Among reasons for opposing the greenfield development, they accuse Rutland Council of not consulting enough on the scheme.

Now, the council has extended consultation until February 17.

More than 100 submissions have been submitted against the scheme, with opponents citing matters like loss of greenfield space, closeness to nearby woodland, extra traffic congestion on the road, amid other reasons.

Submissions can be made using the link here.
