Firefighters are to march from Oakham to Leicester.

The march, in full fire kit, on Saturday July 25, will be to raise funds for the Firefighters Charity and the mental health charity Mind.

The event is known as 'Meet in the Middle' and features Leicestershire fire crews marching from the county's most easterly station (Oakham) and their most westerly station (Ashby-de-la-Zouche) and meeting in the middle, Leicester.

One of the recent recruits taking part is Old Stamfordian pupil Matt Outen, who now lives in Leicester.

He told Stamford Endowed School: "I applied to join Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service in September 2019 and began my journey and new career in May 2020; soon I will complete my initial training course, be posted to a station in the county and be operational from mid-August.

"I'm incredibly proud to be joining such a prestigious service and very much look forward to serving the wider community, and in doing so, making its people and places safer."
