A bi-annual flower festival will be taking place in Whissendine this bank holiday weekend.

The Whissendine Flower Festival is held at St Andrews Church and is staged every other year over the August bank holiday weekend.

The event is a celebration of local culture, produce and skill as green-thumbed residents across the village put their talents to the test.

This year's theme is 'Poetry, Verse and Rhyme' and all of the arrangements will be inspired by favourite poems of those taking part.

To launch the event, Caroline Aston will be reading poetry at the church, where attendees can also enjoy wine, canapés and good company.

Tickets for this launch evening cost £10 and can be purchased from the village shop or by emailing [email protected].

Entry to the weekend event is free, but donations are being accepted and all proceeds will support the development and betterment of the church.

There will be refreshments available at the village hall throughout the weekend, and a stall will be hosted by participants on Monday, where attendees can purchase local produce.
