A former hairdressers in Oakham is set to be converted into residential space, after a planning application was approved by Rutland County Council.

Mr Wilkinson applied back in June for the "change of use from hairdressers back to residential floor space" at 37 Northgate, Oakham.

A Planning, Design and Access Statement says: "The site relates to a dwelling which previously had a gent's hairdresser operating from part of the ground floor.

"The Applicant has now retired and is seeking to convert this part of the house back to residential floor space. It is important to note that area used for hairdressing forms an integral part of the dwelling and could not be subdivided or used in isolation. No physical works are required to return this part of the dwelling back into living space.

"The proposed change of use would not create any additional residential units or require changes to the internal layout. The two rooms used as part of the hairdressers would become a living room and laundry."

These plans were approved by Rutland County Council this week and an Officer's Report says: "The proposed residential use is considered to a conforming use in this mainly residential area which will have no adverse impacts on highway safety, private residential amenity or the character of the area."
